Dolce Far Niente ...

the dolce far niente

That's sweet, doing nothing ... you say so!

Know that it is an art, a difficult job

fly with the swallows remain seated

or only with the mind to defeat the heroes!

to move the shade with a sign Chapter

bend the light with his eyes half-closed

trivial change in the archetypes abstruse

count to one hundred and do it again!

Travelling with the thought in the very end of the world

discuss the world, if it is flat or round

nails tear you with great talent

draw a perfect circle in the sky

I could go far beyond the sunset

are so many uses of doing nothing

carefully and if you looked around you

would see an army that amuses you!

The 80 years of Vespucci.

Amerigo Vespucci
On 22 February 2011, the training ship Amerigo Vespucci reached an enviable goal: have passed since 80 years since, 22 February 1931 was launched in the Royal Naval Shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia.

The ship was completed in just 10 months and the launch date was chosen because he died on February 22, 1522 navigator Amerigo Vespucci, for whom the ship is named.

Many generations of Naval officers were formed on board this ship that has been called "the most beautiful ship in the world" during education campaigns.

Video - Video Rai.TV - TG1 - The 80 years of Vespucci

The oldest ship in the service of the Italian Navy celebrates 80 years at the naval base of La Spezia where he is awaiting some maintenance sail together with the students of the Naval Academy in Livorno. The Amerigo Vespucci was launched in 1931, the day when the navigator died in 1522 from which the ship was named.

Since then, he has crossed the seas around the world and history of Italy, becoming a symbol of the Tricolore. It is estimated to have traveled a million miles. It is 82 meters long, 15 wide, weighs 3,400 gross tons, has 24 sails and the mast is 54 meters high. The current commander, 116 °, is Paul James Royal.

The Vespucci in Venice

The project took over 800 lines of ships, with an all-metal construction of the hull with metal spikes and superimposed to make it more robust. From the beginning the painting was taken stric in black and white reminiscent of ships guera the previous century.

The history of Vespucci, is full of anecdotes and events. In particular, it is linked to its most famous commander, Admiral Starulino Augustine, who with Vespucci did literally everything from left to sail from the port of Taranto (and was punished for it), always goes back to sailing in 1965 the Thames during a visit to London, refusing even when the tugs came and the sun always sails at the dock in Portsmouth, including a cruiser and an aircraft carrier, is said to literally pass out from fear by the pilot of the port.

But it remains the only ship in the aircraft carrier Forrestal, cruisers, optical signal with the projector "You are the most beautiful ship in the world." And certainly the Vespucci, given its current run of form, will remain so for long.

... Last Whale Song

Whales are large mammals that conceive and give birth to their babies at great depths in a liquid environment, the sea. Despite their appearance of fish, they are animals that belong to our own class, lead a dynamic life constantly migrating and covering huge distances. They look great: they are among the largest mammals known to reach 30 meters in length and 150,000 lbs, have large eyes and huge jaws that allowed the proliferation of numerous legends.

One of their mysterious characteristics, still being studied, it is their voice and their language, the immense mass of liquid that contains them.

This song accompanies the journey of the whales in the oceans and is present in all the most significant moments of their lives, such as those related to reproduction of the species, courtship, mating, birth of children and their integration in the life of the pack.

Scientific studies have found that among the humpback whales only emit those sounds, and of them only boys. They "sing" differently depending on the group of whales which they belong, and each group are different "songs" in the case of contacts between why different groups undergo changes, variations and changes, as an exchange of music.

The whale song was recorded and analyzed not only by scientists but also by the musicians. The result was a striking juxtaposition between these sounds and some specific musical frequencies, especially in those songs before mating and those that guide the puppies orientation, as if they were of "serenity" or "driving reasons for the small newborn.

The biological process used to produce sounds ranging from a family of cetaceans to another. While it is considered that the complex and deep sounds of the humpback whale (and a few blue whales) are primarily used for courtship (see next section), sounds simpler than other whales are used throughout the year. While the toothed whales (including killer whale) are able to use echolocation (mainly the emission of ultrasound) to detect the size and nature of objects with great precision.

Whales and poachers

Despite the strong international consensus that has for decades opposed to commercial whaling - Japan, Norway and Iceland, ignoring the global ban in this matter, continued whaling by exploiting a window of opportunity that allows them to submit their shipments as "scientific research".

Forty years ago, whales were on the brink of extinction. But thanks to global social movements, the world established in 1986 the ban on commercial whaling. This ban was one of the greatest victories of the environmental movement. Japan, like Iceland and Russia, is among the few states in the world where commercial whaling is permitted, especially for food. The reason why Japan can bypass the nation a common law at the global level is discussed (and controversial) exemption, for reasons related to scientific research. But the reality exposed by the team of researchers and conservationists is that whale meat comes not only on the tables of restaurants in Tokyo, violating regulations which prohibit international trade.

not served the indignation and condemnation of environmental groups like Greenpeace and WWF (participating in the Commission's Scientific Committee as an 'observer') to deter the Land of the Rising Sun by intensified hunting, instead of adding two new species (the humpback whale, endangered, and
a particular type of whale) to the four already hunted (the sperm whale, fin and the rostrata).

A whale and her baby, probably still suckling, freshly caught are hoisted on the deck of a ship.

Although commercial fishing of whales was banned in 1986, Tokyo continues in practice, with the ploy to circumvent the prohibition of "fishing for scientific purposes." It was 1986 when the International Commission on whales prohibited Commercial fishing of whales, as practiced by a method of brutal and threatening the survival of the marine ecosystem. Despite protests, Japan has managed and continues to evade the ban by the ploy of the so-called "scientific whaling" which guarantees Country of fish annually to about a thousand whales.

Audrey Cardwell, a Greenpeace activist, said the pay would be just looking at them, 60 thousand 'whale watchers' have led to Reykjavik profits for more than 14 million dollars. The 'whale' in Australia has exceeded its half million in 2004, bringing the national economy the equivalent of 180 million euro, in a sector that continues to grow at a
rate of 15% per year.

Valentine ... History, Legends and Curiosities.

So gentle and so honest it seems

Deven trembling outline

She goes, hearing praise,

that 'no ntender the people who can not test:
and seems to be moved from his lip
a gentle spirit, full of love,
al'anima saying that goes: He sighs.

Poetry of Dante Alighieri 1293

The popularity of Valentine's Day has its origins in Anglo-Saxon countries (England, Scotland, Ireland) where the cult of the saint of love quickly asserted itself. In France and England spread the legend that tells of the custom of Valentine's Day to give some flowers to boys and girls who passed through his garden. Since then, it happened that engaged couples and couples about to marry you were marked by the saint, so that soon he was forced to set aside a day for the blessing of the overall wedding.

the appointed day was Feb. 14. The legend spread throughout the world and February 14 became one of the most popular festivals of the year.
History and Legend
L 'origin of Valentine's Day is the Catholic Church's attempt to end a popular pagan rite of fertility. For the ancient Romans the month of February was considered the time when we are preparing the arrival of spring, given the season of rebirth. He began the rites of purification: the houses were clean, there is sprinkled salt and a particular farina.Verso half of the month began the celebration of Lupercalia (of which kept the wolves away from cultivated fields). Since the fourth century AC pagan Romans paid homage, with a unique annual ritual, the god Lupercus. The Luperi, the order of priests involved in this cult, went to the cave where, according to legend, the wolf had nursed Romulus and Remus, and here were making propitiatory sacrifices.

Along the streets was shed the blood of some animals as a sign of fertility, but the real ritual consisted in a kind of lottery of love. The names of women and men who worshiped this God were placed in an urn and appropriately mescolati.Quindi a child chose at random a few couples who have lived for a year in intimacy, so that the fertility rite was over. The next year would then be started again with other couples. The precursors of the Church fathers, determined to put an end to this practice licentious, they tried a saint "of Love" to replace the immoral Lupercus. In 496 AD Pope Gelasius canceled this pagan festival and began the cult of St. Valentine, a bishop who had been martyred some two hundred years earlier. Valentine was born in Terni in the year 175 AD became the patron saint of love and patron of lovers from around the world. Valentino dedicated his life to the Christian community and the city of Terni, where the persecution raged against the followers of Jesus
Relics of the saint
His relics were collected and buried on a hill of Terni, where he soon rose a church for the bishop and martyr Valentine, later sanctified.

Valentine
Abriola, the country of Valentine

It could be called the land of love, as the patron saint is the very famous Valentine's Day, celebrated every year on February 14: Abriola rises 957 meters sea \u200b\u200blevel, in the heart of the mountains Lucan, perched on a rocky promontory and surrounded by green trees in spring and a blanket of white snow in the long winter.

Abriola
The town was a stronghold of Arab, enlarged by the Swabians and then by Anjou, conquered the Lombards at the end of the ninth century, to later become the fief of Cayman Capaccio.

entitled The Cathedral Church Santa Maria Maggiore, guards inside the trunk of S. Valentino el'urna containing part of the relics of the martyr. Even in a niche above the altar is preserved baroque statue of the Madonna di Monteforte, wooden work from the late thirteenth century.

The cult of St. Valentino, patron saint of the city, Abriola belongs to a tradition rooted popular and religious. His worship goes back to the legend that the Holy pausing during his trip to Puglia, in a time of great famine in the country did get wagons full of grain committed his ring, thus allowing the residents Abriola to be saved.

During the festival, which of course falls on February 14, aspects of folk and religious mix in the respect for tradition. Start the morning with the liturgical celebration and the procession through the streets of the town, the statue of the Holy Martyr carried by the faithful continue Then in the evening with the staging of large bonfire around which many residents and visitors eat traditional food and local wine, singing popular songs, until you turn off the last bonfire.
